Letters of Marque

The Competitive Enterprise Institute, an unjustly overlooked libertarian think-tank, has hit upon the perfect solution to the piracy problem. Free-market, revenue-enhancing, and unquestionably constitutional.

Words cannot express the joy I feel at being the first to bring this suggestion to the attention of the P4500 community.

In doing a quick bit of background research for this post, I discovered that Ron Paul proposed resurrecting letters of marque and reprisal after the 9/11 attacks as a method for dealing with terrorists. I don't know how I missed it at the time. However, his proposal seems to have been a way to avoid declaring war on states, rather than encouraging privateers.

My appreciation to Tapped for reading CEI press releases.

I cannot believe you beat our esteemed colleague/scurvy dog JJV to the punch on this one.

Given that Blackwater just got the boot from Iraq, there's no lack of interest in this.

Combined with universal carry and conceal this should end violence worldwide.

If you search this site you will find I have already made this proposal. I, however, cannot search this site.
