Joseph Anthony Slattery, 1928-2013

Joseph Anthony Slattery was born in Ithaca, NY, on December 4, 1928. He was graduated from Ithaca High School in 1947 and from the New York State Forestry College (now the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry) in 1951. Mr. Slattery served in the United States Navy from 1954-1957 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant (j.g.). In 1959 he married Carol A. Mr. Slattery taught General Science and Biology at Lyons Central School from 1960-1985. After his retirement he and his wife devoted much time to their favorite hobby of birdwatching, and served together for many years as officers of the Eaton Birding Society.

Joseph A. Slattery died in Rochester, NY, on August 20, 2013, after a brief illness brought on by complications from Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 54 years, of Lyons, NY; his son David, of Arlington, VA; and two grandchildren. A son, Thomas, predeceased him in 2000.
