Not All Who Wander Are Lost

A professor who spends an awful lot of time with Lord of the Rings has dissected the Republican field and the WSJ's calling the Tea Party "hobbits" and meaning it as an insult. The resulting analysis is a lot of fun. I especially like Boehner and Huntsman.

Good light-hearted fun, I suppose, but there are a few obvious inaccuracies (despite Peter Jackson's embellishment, Aragorn did not slice & dice the Mouth of Sauron - killing someone under a flag of truce is more Attila the Hun than Aragorn son of Arathorn) and one odd note: why does the author use screen captures for all of the LOTR characters - except for Gandalf? Is it because Ian McKellen is gay? Well, no - or Hugo Weaving as Elrond would have been similarly disqualified. Weird.

I do find the suggestion that Limbaugh is Gandalf and Krauthammer Elrond fairly repulsive, but I'm willing to let that pass given that the source is just another Rupert Murdoch rag and therefore allowances have to be made.

In follow up, I will allow that the WSJ analysis of the Tea Partiers as "hobbits" is and insult - and not a light one - to hobbits everywhere. With the possible exception of Lotho Sackville-Baggins.

Terribly clever; especially Axelrod as Wormtongue and Boehner as Sam because they both cry a lot.

JCC, Hobbits do like to eat, drink, and smoke. We can only suspect the same enthusiasm from the TP. I do agree Rush is no Gandalf. Tom Bombadil, perhaps?

Suffice it to say that the TP has no monopoly on appreciation of eating, drinking or smoking. Although I can't help but wonder what's in the pipeweed the TP are drawing on ;)

Hobbits are very "live and let live" - you can say a lot about the TP crowd, but it's not a very "live and let live" bunch.

the Tea Partiers are precisely live and let live types. Its the people who want to spend all our money and tax the dickens out of us who are not "live and let live" types.
