Comparing Big Men

I seem to have given JJV the first shot at eulogizing Mandela here. It's not comprehensively awful despite the Kiplingesque laager*-holding wankery, which is dealt with in comments.

Here's food for thought: Nelson Mandela did more for the cause of freedom than Ronald Reagan.

*Best to use the Boer spelling to distinguish from lager-holding, which I wholeheartedly endorse.

Nonsense. Mandela could have helped free prisoners in Cuba and other hellholes and did not. Reagan freed Eastern Europe and Central America. Mandela was a regional force but internationally he sided with the bad guys.

Also, Kiplingesque is a compliment. Of course he was a big enemy of the Boers.

Switch your first comment's first period to a colon, number the next two sentences, and I am right there with you.

I was going to do something about the irony of a Kiplingesque defense of the Boers but felt compelled to post quickly.
