It's been eight years and a thousand tears, and look at the mess we're in

How was your week? Yeah, ours too.

Despite being a cynical bastard I have to admit I have been taken aback by the thoroughness of the pathological nihilism of the first week of the second administration of convicted felon Donald Trump. A good amount of the actions embodied in the rhino-spray of executive orders, decrees etc. ranges from illegal to unconstitutional, but that's the point isn't it: a Gish Gallop of feral lashing-out at what passes for the established order, each with its own silent "And what are you gonna do about it?" at the end.

In addition to the usual suspects we have blanket halts on foreign aid, NIH research, CDC outreach etc. This will result in people sickening and/or dying, in the US and abroad, in addition to job loss and other economic/social impact.

All of this is enraging, terrifying, saddening, your additional negative emotion-ifying here. We as a country have fucked around and we are about to find out.

Over the past week so many words have piled up in my head that it was becoming difficult to get around them. And then I remembered this place and thought Hey...

So after a few minutes of poking around and eventually relearning how to Add a Post, here I am. From time to time I will use this place as an outlet for things that maybe other people will want to hear, although I am sure others will not, but that's how it goes. Anyway, nobody is forcing you to read any of this.

In a bid to drag the site out of the 2010s I, uh, well, OK I changed the color theme. I've also cleaned up the sidebar in a first pass but that, like all things including ourselves, will be a work in progress.

Last night I had dinner with two former contributors and announced my intention to relaunch and my reasons for doing so. Both offered to rejoin and I accepted with enthusiasm, and not just because we were on our second pitcher of margaritas. Admin wheels are spinning as we speak and I hope to see them here soon.
