A Disturbance in the Force, as if Four Singers Layered Multiple Times Cried Out in Harmony

Friend and fellow blogger J seems to have her hands full (ahem) with naked bathing French guys and kittens, but managed to send this my way:

That's awesome from any point of view, not just a certain one. Keep in mind, though, that Jaws was never his scene and he didn't like Star Wars:

I Find Your Lack of Funding Disturbing

As you may know, one of the ways in which our illegitimate Kenyan usurper so-called President maintains the facade of democratic governance is an official site wherein citizens may petition the government on any issue seen fit. Per the Terms of Participation, any petition getting 25,000 signatures within 30 days will receive an official response. First Amendment + Internet = what could possibly happen?

Not surprisingly, more than 25,000 of my fellow citizens agreed that the United States should build a Death Star. I can imagine the Senate is against this purely for employment reasons. Al Franken* can rest easy, as the White House has responded in the hilariously negative.

Not that we're going to let rebellious systems slip through our fingers...

*Who follows me on Twitter, incidentally. What's your excuse?

Dewey, Blastem, and Howe

JJV continues to work at the computer with email but without blogging software, sending me this consideration of Star Wars characters as lawyers. As always there is room for debate, although there is considerable consensus that Lando would be a top-flight medical frigate chaser:

The firm of Jabba and Associates would certainly not be without Rancor. Hi-yo!

May the Fourth Be With You!

Happy Friday everyone. As promised, a post about Star Wars from yours truly. Today is Star Wars Day! And without any further ado, I bring you two great videos, sent to me by the new Messenger. First up is the Piano Guys with Cello Wars. I've gotta say that with or without lightsaber bows, electric cellos are kinda badass.

And next up is a great new piece directed by geek extraordinaire Seth Green.

May the Force Be With Us

The frequent commenter, contributor and gamer known to some as Bombardier felt a disturbance:
The Star Wars universe has lost a legend today. Artist and visionary Ralph McQuarrie has died at age 82. There is no doubt in my mind that the universe would be incomplete without the scale and grandeur penciled by McQuarrie. Indeed many of the iconic shots from the movies are his.

On a related note, it seems that the depiction of Chewbacca is yet another of Lucas' pilferings. There is no evidence who found the depiction and took it, only that it was used as source; right down to the crossbow. Read and see the genesis of the Wookiee in more stunning McQuarrie artwork.
Speaking of pilfering, check this out:

She Must Have Hidden the Plans on the Five-Inch Drive

Ever wonder what to do with those 3.5" floppy drives (kids, ask your parents)?

Try this:

Play that in the background as you peruse this.

I Find the Shifting Details of the Operation... Disturbing

Typical Imperial spin on the "death" of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Next thing you know, some crank is going to theorize that the Jedi derive their power from some kind of symbiotic parasite. Oh, wait.

H/t Lawyers, Guns and Money.

In a related development, Jonathan Last identifies a spare-time anomaly in deep space, used to power this disquisition on the economics of the Death Star. Well, somebody's got to pay for child care.

Feel the Hatred of Jar Jar Flow Through You

Beastybunny has justified the loss of a transport full of Bothan spies by providing this gem:

I have to admit I have not had The Talk with Bryan. We have watched the original three films and will take the plunge into the prequels at some point, although he is already aware of the Clone Wars and will be made much more aware after Christmas thanks to a certain grandmother.

Art, from a Certain Point of View

From Powa and the usual number of Bothan spies comes this (hopefully) unique exhibit of Star Wars-themed art.

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of man-cave walls suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

The comments over there, in response to the solicitation for "the Star Wars character or scene you’d most like to see brought to life as a piece of fine art," mostly are a combination of serious and I-hope-that's-not-serious:
Artwork to see: young Annikan in the pod racer, at the finish line, done Norman Rockwell style – he was the master of nostalgic images of children.
the ewok vs. stormtrooper battle on yavin 4 done in the style of picasso’s ‘Guernica’
Dogs playing poker style painting of Hans Solo, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan, Luke, and Greedo at Mos Eisley.
Occasionally the self-awareness kicks in:
Ever get the feeling that comic book artists didn’t date much in high school?
You want art? This, my friends, is art, via Bill Murray as lounge singer Nick Winters:

The Ultimate (Fashion) Power in the Universe

Beastybunny and The Messenger threw a bunch of Bothan spies to the wolves to bring us this information. Behold an entire legion of Star Wars-themed shirts. I think my favorite is the Kiss one.

Lest we forget, there is also a Dath Vader tracksuit and a Boba Fett tracksuit. With reference to the Product Information for that last item, teal-y is NOT steely.

I Find JJV's Lack of Embedded Video Disturbing

JJV's most recent post is certainly one of my favorites, from a certain point of view, but I thought it could use some visuals.

Thus (NSFW):

Syncing with the Sith

I've had these kicking around for a while and thought I'd share them (warning: all NSFW). Yes, my blog posts from now on will consist of YouTube embeds and text in rough proportion to the fruit/cake ratio in old-fashioned fruitcake. You got a problem with that? Mmmm, old-fashioned fruitcake.

First up, James Earl Jones as Darth Vader, using snippets from other James Earl Jones performances:

Next, a mashup (I believe that's what the kids call it*) of clips from Star Wars voiced by Brick Top from Snatch:

And finally, Eddie Izzard's great routine about Darth Vader in the Death Star cafeteria, as rendered in Legos:

I'm serious about the fruitcake. Love that stuff.

*Or maybe not. Whatever. Get off my lawn!

Fire up the Spare Time Generator, This is Important

If you are unfamiliar with Red Letter Media, take some vacation time to check out the long-form scathing reviews of Next Generation-era Trek movies and, above all, the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Even though he's only done Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, by the time you finish watching he'll be done with Revenge of the Sith.
