Previous: Odyssey Day Seven
The Triumphant Return
As it happens, Ithaca was not the final destination of our odyssey. It wasn't like we were trying to out-epic the epic; it just ended up like that.
Loaded with tomatoes and gourds from our wonderful hosts, we set out on the 375 mile drive back to DC/VA.
Apart from the Ithaca-to-Cortland leg to get on to I-81, I have driven this route innumerable times so there is really not much to report here. Because our first stop was DC we got on to I-83 north of Harrisburg and I was pleased to note that the junction seems to have been improved. The sharp turn to head across the Susquehanna wasn't as bad as I remembered, possibly because we had recently experienced Dead Man's Curve in Cleveland.
On the plus side it was good to see the York Barbell Guy again!

| Possibly the most interesting sight on I-83 |
As we approached Washington on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway we were greeted with the traditional gift of slow-to-stopped traffic. We always say "No really, it's not necessary" but the locals insist. This time the tradition continued pretty much to within a half-mile of CRH's house, probably because they sensed we had come a long way and deserved extra attention.
Once we got CRH and his gear unloaded I headed back across the Potomac and into Arlington, where Laura awaited on the doorstep. Only now as I write this did I miss the opportunity to say "Well, I'm back."

It was a fantastic trip, but it is so good to be home. And not just because I made it back just in time for the neighborhood Oktoberfest!
