I nearly missed this one, which I found in the American Spectator first and, of course, turned to the Telegraph. This one is a legend. Got rid of collecting statistics by the government because it led to meddling. If India had gotten him and Hong Kong had gotten Mountbatten, India would be a superpower and China still a backwater. Another example of why Hegelian and other impersonal forces schools of thought always lose to the Great Man theory of history.
