How Immortals Perish

It took a little while but the Telegraph has Jean Revel's obit up.

I thumbed through "Why Democracies Perish" on my bookshelf when I read of his death. He was anti-totalitarian and pro-America when it was not easy to be those things in France. However, when I was young I was very worried that the nature of the Left combined with constitutional democracy would leave us without the sand necessary to stand down Communist agression. Luckily, Ronald Reagan and Patrick Moynihan were more right than Revel. He was an indispensible combatant on their side. His last book was a stirring call for a new defense against the terror threat.

A real member of the Resistance, defender of the French language, gourmand and historian. RIP
