JJV sent this my way the other day, citing my "progressive and ecumenical" outlook. I suspect that was an insult but I thought the article was worth posting.
JJV interpreted the article to mean that the act in question seems permissible outside of Ramadan, although a closer reading indicates that it's a no-no regardless of time of year. The issue, so to speak, is more of the act's effect on the Ramadan fast. The lesser fatwaphobic among us would say, "Well, if you're not eating, what else are you going to do with your hands?"
