Ancient and Modern Meet, Safely

An archaeological team in Rome has used lasers to uncover what are believed to be the first icons of Sts. Peter and Paul in a catacomb tomb. Not only did they use a laser to clean off centuries of accumulated mineral buildup, but the laser more or less knew where to stop based on color differentiation. That is extremely cool.

As a word of warning, the slideshow at that link occasionally shows goofy ads instead of neato frescoes when clicking through, lest some of you become confused by the apparent use of Bounty paper towels by the early Christians.
