The King versus the Commissars

Instapundit has a theory that Elvis stopped the totalitarian impulse. I don't' believe it but he certainly was an anti-Communist. He mentions Sinatra in passing but Sinatra was as big as Elvis in his time and also did well in all mediums.

The totalitarians may not like Rock 'n Roll but it is destructive of a regime of ordered liberty as well. One does not have to be Alan Bloom to recognize that the adoration and exemption from rules allowed to rock stars, and the relentless message of destruction of social norms (see Madonna entire career) may be acidic not only to totalitarianism but any ordered society. Anarchists may not mind but all others need to look upon this phenomenon with jaundiced eyes.

And I remain particularly immune to the "charms" of Sparks, specific article or no.

Good thing no elected officials got themselves exempted from rules, after Clinton anyway. That could have been kind of destructive too.
