Number 999

Two of my favorite things - Upstate New York and the New York Central Railroad - come together in the story of Empire State Express #999, which set an early (albeit unofficial) speed record for land travel between Batavia and Buffalo in 1893. If you've ever traveled between Batavia and Buffalo you can understand the desire for making the trip as quickly as possible.

I'm always in a New York State of Mind and have travelled between Rochester and Buffalo countless times, passing by Batavia on the way.

Batavia does have a nice little Irish pub called O'Lacy's. My dad and I hit it up for lunch dates before we play a mean round of mini-golf (you know, when there isn't snow on the ground!).

Cheers!
