NONE OF THIS IS NORMAL
My in-laws used to raise turkey's. They cannot fly. They can barely run. A turkey will drown because they open their beaks and point their open mouths to the sky in a rain storm. Turkey's are dumb, though not as dumb as Mr. Carlson!
